INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY

ABOUT MID-OHIO SPORTS CAR COURSE: A comprehensive motorsports facility opened in 1962 in Lexington, Ohio, Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course features a permanent road-racing circuit with two primary configurations: a 2.4-mile, 15-turn, and a 2.25-mile, 13-turn circuit. Located 60 miles north of Columbus and 75 miles south of Cleveland near Mansfield, the track has been called “the most competitive in the U.S.” and annually hosts a diversity of locally, regionally and nationally sanctioned racing events for amateur, club and professional drivers and riders.  It is also home to The Mid-Ohio School, featuring over 20 driving and riding courses, from teenagers to professional racers.

MARKETING & PUBLIC RELATIONS INTERN

LOCATION:  Lexington, Ohio

TYPE OF POSITION:  Full-time, unpaid internship (academic course credit hours have been obtained by previous candidates depending on college or university’s parameters)

HOURS:  Monday-Friday – 8:30am-5:00pm, plus some evenings and weekends

STARTING DATE:  May 15, 2017

COMPLETION DATE:  August 12, 2017

Selected candidates will develop essential skills and gain valuable experience in one or more of the following areas, with the aim to prepare them for a successful career in the highly competitive sports and entertainment industry.

  • Social Media
  • Marketing campaigns
  • Proactive PR and Media Relations
  • Pre-event promotions-planning
  • Event planning

QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and qualities:

  • Strength in time management, multi-task, administrative ability, and organization
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a professional manner
  • High energy, with a positive, goal focused attitude
  • Capable of working independently as a contributing team member
  • Strong writing skills (preferably to AP Styleguide standards for press releases)
  • Proficiency with MS-Office
  • Illustrator or Photoshop experience is considered an asset
  • Ability to work flexible hours, adapt to ever–changing situations and some hands-on tasks
  • Holding a valid driver's license is an asset but not absolutely required

EDUCATION

  • Currently pursuing College or University education in a related field
  • Related experience a definite asset
  • Preference will be given to students utilizing the internship towards course completion

  • June 23-25 - Vintage Grand Prix of Mid-Ohio
  • July 7-9 - AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days
  • July 28-30 - The Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio
  • August 11-12 - The Mid-Ohio Challenge
