This action packed season opening weekend of premier sports car racing features IMSA Weather Tech Sports Car Championship and the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge. Some of the coolest cars around will be on track from world class manufacturers like Acura, Honda, BMW, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Ferrari, Ford, Mazda, Nissan, Porsche ... You name it! IMSA’s flagship series competes at 12 of North America’s leading sports car venues, including Daytona, Sebring, Watkins Glen, Road Atlanta, Long Beach and Road America. Competition takes place in four different classes: Daytona Prototype International, Le Mans Prototype 2, GT Le Mans and GT Daytona, with action in each of the four groups typically going all the way to the checkered flag.

From the showroom to the speedway, the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge is IMSA’s showcase for the latest in American-made and imported high performance sports cars, coupes and sedans straight from the dealer showroom floor. With modifications permitted only in the area of safety and competition, the Michelin Pilot Challenge is home to the same cars seen on streets and highways around the world every day. Racing takes place in two classes, Grand Sport (GS) and Touring Car (TCR) with the series running a 10-race schedule in tandem with the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

The IMSA Prototype Challenge series is for future IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship drivers and veteran drivers alike. Entering its 15th season, IMSA Prototype Challenge shifts to a single-class, endurance race format in 2020 with six races held on North America’s most premier road courses. The series will continue to feature the global-spec LMP3 prototypes. The endurance format pairs two-drivers per car in a six race season.

Both young aspiring drivers and veteran semi-pros have a home in this series, which uses the iconic Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car. Action takes place in both Platinum Cup and Gold Cup, with a Masters Championship for drivers 45 and over also contested in Platinum Cup. Each of eight weekends on North American circuits includes a pair of 45-minute races.
