Americas Rallycross Creates the Inaugural ARX2 Cooper Tires at Mid-Ohio

NEW YORK, N.Y. (August 16, 2019) – Americas Rallycross (ARX) announced today the formation of the ARX2 Cooper Tires Combine, a one-day program that will draw in drivers from around the world of motorsports to Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course on Monday, October 7 to test the 310hp, four-wheel drive ARX2 machines, the official development category of ARX.

“The announcement of the Cooper Tires Combine allows the sport of rallycross in North America to take center stage and reach potential drivers from a whole host of motorsport disciplines,” said Jordan Martindale, Series Director, ARX. “Our teams and partners are already working together to create a successful field in 2020 and beyond as we find the future stars of ARX.”

Participants will also have the opportunity to attend the season finale Cooper Tires ARX of Mid-Ohio and get a behind-the-scenes look into the series, teams and partners of the second-year championship.

Cooper Tire, Founding Partner of ARX and the official tire of ARX and the FIA World Rallycross Championship presented by Monster Energy, is the title partner of the inaugural search event for future rallycross talent.

“Cooper Tire is a long-time supporter of the development of race car drivers in North America”, stated Chris Pantani, director of motorsports for Cooper Tire.  “Our partnerships with the Road to Indy presented by Cooper Tires, as well as being the official tire of the Lucas Oil School of Racing, and now serving as the title partner of the ARX2 Cooper Tires Combine, shows our dedication to the training and development of young race car drivers across multiple disciplines. The creation of this program coincides with our multi-year extension of ARX to help bolster the team rosters and the appeal of rallycross in North America.”

ARX2 is one of the most diverse series in motorsports. This season, drivers with experience ranging from off-road racing, karting, traditional rally and even the highest ranks of IndyCar have all participated in the championship, with ages ranging from 14-31. Jamaica’s Fraser McConnell began racing in rallycross just over one year ago and is now leading the championship over reigning ARX2 Champion, Conner Martell of Colchester, Vermont.

This seasons’ ARX2 Champion will receive a Supercar test with Loenbro Motorsports courtesy of cbdMD on October 7 alongside the ARX2 Cooper Tires Combine participants. In addition, the ARX2 champion will receive complementary Cooper Tires for their entire 2020 ARX or ARX2 program and four free one-day DirtFish Rally School courses in one of their four-wheel drive prepared Subaru vehicles.

ARX Supercar podium-finishing rookies Travis PeCoy of Loenbro Motorsports and Cabot Bigham of Andretti Rallycross are graduates of the development category, owning their skills in the official development category of ARX.

Dreyer and Reinbold Racing, Buhl Sport Detroit, DirtFish Motorsports and others will participate in the ARX2 Cooper Tires Combine, allowing drivers to get to know the teams and partners involved in ARX2.
